People ask me all the time, what is a facial? How often should I get them? Facials are a skin care treatment recommended to help with problematic skin, relaxation, and the overall health of your skin.

A facial first begins with steam which opens the pores and penetrates products deeper into the skin. It helps loosen buildup of dirt so that you receive a deeper cleanse. Warm steam will also increase circulation and dilate blood vessels.

While the steam is working on opening up your pores, we then cleanse the skin. The cleanser is carefully chosen based on your skin type and your specific skin care needs.

The cleanser is removed with a hot towel and followed with an exfoliate. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells that contain pigments on the outermost layer of your skin. Once the dull pigments are removed your complexion is noticeably brighter and softer.

A toner is chosen based on your skin type and applied. The toner will balance your skin PH levels which in return adds back the moisture your skin has lost. Toners will also close and tighten your pores, which will block oil and dirt to build up and cause breakouts. This skin care step is highly recommended for acne prone skin types.

During or after the exfoliation process, your hands are hydrated with lotion with a light hand and arm massage. This will reduce tension, relax the body, help finger and wrist motion and enhance circulation throughout.

Now that your skin has been cleansed and exfoliated, a light facial massage is incorporated. The facial massage helps to bring oxygen to the area which is a natural form of anti-aging. Massage will increase blood flow which in return increases collagen production.

We then apply a facial mask to target any area of concern. The correct face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and improve the appearance of your pores. Face masks typically stay on for about 5 to 10 minutes. While the mask is on, we go to work on a light neck and shoulder massage, allowing you to relax and de-stress the body.

The last few steps of a facial include the application of a serum that delivers a very high concentration of active ingredients. This is great for targeting specific concerns such as wrinkles. Serums also help to fight free radical damage, acne, scarring and pigmentation of the skin. A moisturizer is then applied to hydrate, maintain balance and prevent dryness or acne. Lastly an eye cream is applied to protect the delicate skin around your eye. Eye creams reduce fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. It is recommended that you begin using an eye cream as early as the age of 20, since the eye area is the earliest to start showing signs of aging.

Facials are extremely beneficial for your skin and your over all well-being. It is recommended to get a facial once a month in order to maintain optimal skin care health. Cell turn-over happens every 28-30 days. During this process, cells from the lowest level of the epidermis travel to the top and shed off. Receiving a facial on a regular basis will ensure that this fresh layer of skin cells is properly maintained.

With every facial you will receive a complimentary skin care analysis. During the analysis we will determine which facial is best for your skin care needs. We will also create an at home skin care maintenance routine to ensure the longevity of your facial service.
